I've just noticed following a user question that we aren't covering the basic publishing steps, i.e

prepare metadata
prepare description
choose keywords
choose license
reference sources etc

while all of these are somehow covered in the concepts and technical tips, and the checklists and publishing options can give you some hints, we don't have a straightforward "this is what you do"
I think we should have something like that in between Publishing options and Best practice.
Maybe even as an introduction to best practice.

UHM this is weird it looks like we have a big part of publish-option.md that is not showing, which it might be why it felt like we weren't covering this. We might still have to add some specific checklist but we need to work out first what's going on here.

started on a publish-procedure to add straight on after the intro!
This will cover roughly

Step1) making choices:

  • what and where to publish (details for this in publishing options)
  • license, disclaimer, other?
  • authors, collaborators
    Step2) metadata
  • abstract
  • auxiliary files
  • self-describing files
    Step3) organising actual data
  • choosing granularity, file size with consideration on how it will be used and distributed
  • conventions
  • -?

I wondered (about the bit that's not showing), were you able to resolve that? I didn't think we'd done so little work there.

I have to re-build the book once I add the abstract and then check if we're covering everything. Mostly it's a matter of naming this topics and then refer to the correct page where we cover them in depth. It might be nice to also have a checklist somewhere, however we sort of have that in the create section. And that can be added later, but I don't think I yet covered the very specific title of this issue.
