Currently for me on Hyprland, the default log out command half works. It terminates your session, but it does not bring you back to the login screen (SDDM for me). A simple fix would be to just change the default command to pkill -u $USER, which produces the desired effect (terminates the session and returns the user to the login screen) no matter the username.

This seems like a sddm bug, I've submitted a bug report to upstream I'm going to leave this issue open till I get a response from the sddm developers

I would say the best alternative would be to use hyperctl dispatch exit as a default command for hyprland.
