On our last day of the Sprint, the following suggestions were made concerning the website design. They can be taken as tasks which can be undertaken to improve the website:
Optimize the website for mobile view.
Can we have a search icon next to the search bar? Additionally, the search box should display text when typing search terms.
Have hover text inside the search field that says “Type here to search for an Open Access journal with waiver 🔓”
Include search filters. For example, users can search journals with waivers, Open Access, ‘low APCs’, etc. (We can decide on the search filters based on the information the Affordabee database holds).
Format the text of the database for easier visualization on the webpage. For example the waiver amount column has different types of information as a block of text such as different waiver categories (full waiver, discounts, discretionary waivers)
We may consider not including the Scope column website since many of the publishers cover wide areas of topics and including them all for each one would filter much out - though it could still be useful for the search function. However, Scope would be useful if the site extends its scope beyond Life Sciences.
An option to report/improve a record, can be done by linking a Google Form.
The option on the top left called “Show [NUMBER] entries” does not show 100 cells when chosen
Change the “Low Cost Open Access” Text to: Search for Publishers that offer Waivers, etc.
