Agenda

This call is intended to help you learn new concepts about Bitcoin, Lightning, and design. The general format will be to focus on a specific topic or read-through a document together and discuss (like a chapter of the Design Guide, or something that will help us learn about Bitcoin and Lightning).

Today, we'll talk about ways that a user's lightning wallet can get channels and therefore have liquidity.

  • Dedicated Lightning Node
  • Lightweight Node with Manual Channel Creation
  • Lightweight Node with automated channel creation from on-chain address
  • A lightweight node with automated channel creation from lightning invoice
  • Lightning node in the cloud that pays to user’s on-chain wallet via submarine swaps
  • Other techniques?

Different wallets have tried different techniques, and so we can talk about the pros and cons of each technique.

On this call, we talked about ways that a user's lightning wallet can get channels and therefore have liquidity. Also looked at channel reserves amounts.

NOTE: There were several technical difficulties with this recording. For the first half of the call, Jitsi failed to capture the screenshare in the recording. Later in the call, we got all got booted. To follow along with what's going on for the first half, you'll need to see the Figma file. We were looking at the far left of the file.
