We should decide on and attach a license to the project

If the goal is permit reuse of code, but enforce proper attribution, take a look at CPAL.

It's sometimes pejoratively referred to as 'badgeware', which would accomplish the above goal. This license also does not require consumers to give code back, unlike some of the GPL variants (or something).

Or we could just apache/MIT it for more openness, or GPL it for even more openness and non-commercial usage.
