I'm using nintendont through the wii u and have memcard emulation on so the save files is a .raw. ACSE says it can use .raw but when I seletect it it just crashes the program.

I don't think ACSE ever supported .raw files sadly. You need to convert your GAFE.raw file into a .gci file for it to work on the editor. Let me know if you need help to convert it, I use the same setup as you so i've done the process numerous times.

Ah, ok. I wasn't too sure myself since it saw the file. I would like some help in converting and reconverting the file, yeah . I did try to convert it using dolphin and while that did work I didn't know how to convert both files back to a single .raw file.

Sorry for the delay of my reply!!!
You did half the work already by converting your .raw file into .gci files with dolphin so that's great! Converting them back is a bit trickier so I don't blame you for not knowing how. It took me a few attempts to get it right at first myself.

So first thing you want to do is open the memory card manager in Dolphin like you did the first time around and click the "Create..." button as seen on the screenshot below.
01

A tiny window will pop up with the option to change the card size.
02
For this, you want to make sure to select the same card size as the one set for your Nintendont memcard emulation. If I recall correctly, Nintendont defaults to 251 blocks (16 Mbit) but if you want to verify yourself, boot Nintendont and go in the settings. It will tell you at the bottom of the screen how many blocks the memcard emulation is set to. You can change the size there if you wish. Just make sure that whatever you select in Dolphin matches the Nintendont memcard block size.

Photo of the Nintendont settings screen. Emulated memcard size highlighted at the bottom of the screen. I have mine set to 59 blocks but yours should be at 251 if you haven't changed it.
03

So assuming your Nintendont memcard size is set to 251 blocks; In Dolphin, select "16 Mbit (251 blocks)", always leave the encoding to "Western (Windows-1252)" and click the "Create..." button.
02

You will then be prompted to name your new memory card file. Simply call it "GAFE" in all caps like your old unedited file.
04

You now have your .raw file created but it currently lacks the Animal Crossing save data on it. To add it in, click the "Import..." button as seen on the screenshot below.
05

Select both of your .gci files and click "Open".
06

And voila! Your edited .gci files are now fully converted back to a single GAFE.raw file and ready to be added to your Wii U "saves" folder! If everything was done correctly, the "Slot A" section will look like this:
07
If you want, you can close the Dolphin memory card manager window, reopen it, and open your new GAFE.raw file again to double check that everything is in place.

I hope this helped! Feel free to ask any other questions if you need anything else!
