Hi !

I used to work with S2L on Mac and it's awesome !
But when i updated my Mac to Big Sur OS, It doesn't work anymore... Do you think that you'll update it ?

Thank You

When I say It doesn't work anymore, I mean that the Software doesn't open...

Thank You !

Any news about?

I have a new M1 Mac, so I have to use Big Sur. Is there any chance that it will work anytime soon? I get the "splash screen" (the app icon) then the app asks to allow mic acces. After that step it freezes.

Unfortunately I'm not working on or maintaining Sound2Light anymore. Either someone from ETC creates a new build or you could use Luminosus instead, it provides very similar functionality but in a totally different user interface. Fortunately someone made it working for Big Sur: ETCLabs/LuminosusEosEdition#34 (comment)

Hi Tim,
The problem is the same like Luminosus, it doesn't work on newer macOS versions. Hans Leiter told me that a further development will only happen if they found a student employee who want's to restart the project.

Hi @sstaub, Luminosus actually works on Big Sur and even M1 Macs, thanks to @xhpohanka. See the comment that I linked above for where to download it. Maybe @xhpohanka can do the same for Sound2Light.

Hi @luminosuslight,
I indeed sometimes play with Luminosus and I'm able to provide actual builds (without installers, but I also think if someone is not able to use sw without installer, then Luminosus is not a right tool for him).
It would be nice to put a link to my github to luminosus.org with a notice that new builds can be occasionally found there :-). People are confused now and think that the project is dead.

I don't know anything about Sound2Light now.

Thanks @xhpohanka for this suggestion, I just put a link to your GitHub releases page on the webpage!
For now, it still says its not maintained anymore because I guess you don't want to offer actual support for it regularly. Although of course I would be happy to hand this over to you completely if you like 💁‍♂️

As an advice, the macOS version from @xhpohanka works also on macOS Monterey, great.

Hi, great news to hear that Luminosus was revived despite previous posts on the website that development was halted. I will give it a try and hope you all feel how much your work is appreciated by the lighting community. Thanks a lot!

I was trying if my bigsur virtual PC still works and it does. If @fganzevoort or anyone else want to try, this was built there https://drive.google.com/file/d/19hFBovc_clhk3aZAD5e2As3b4HukfRu9/view?usp=sharing. No testing on my side, thouhg.

@xhpohanka thank's for your experience

  • It is possible to start the app
  • there is no access to the Microphone, that is the main problem because of right management, the same problem with luminosus
  • luminosus ask for network communication, S2L not
  • missing icon

@xhpohanka, thanks a lot for trying to keep these programs alive !
Nothing else to say than @sstaub.
If it can help, the microphone detection works well on the 0.0.2.1.0.9's version of S2L (Actually on Monterrey)

@MrDjeep thank's for the advice, it seems v0.0.3.1.0.2 is wrong compiled for macOS.
