If we controlled our production switcher based on cluster state, the production switcher could intelligently follow node failovers and container deployments.

Our current production switcher has 1 mix/effects bus - that is, one full chain for the processing and compositing of several streams of live incoming video. But relatively inexpensive switchers exist with as many as 8 M/Es.

With a multi-M/E production switcher, a full stack of video playback, graphics, and recording would be possible to provision in our video fabric, without affecting programme output. It would be possible to run a full test suite which even included production switcher automation - for manual inspection, or automatic comparison against reference video. This would enable automated integration and unit testing of the entire Frikanalen broadcast software stack.
