The Podcast Namespace provides a way for any RSS feed, including video libraries, to act as podcasts and to derive streaming payments and boost/one-time payments using bitcoin lightning (with plans to support other payment methods in the future). The Live tag in the Podcast Namespace also allows live streams to receive streaming payments and boosts from supported apps.

By adding Podcast Namespace features and functions to Gilmesh it not only enables archived/VOD recordings to act as podcasts with their own unique RSS feed, but also allows creators to receive value both for their archived content and live streams.

Gilmesh can also choose to set a default platform fee percentage that they receive as part of the streaming value payments and boosts to creators (Ideally 1-2%, let's not pull a Twitch here) which helps to fund further development of the platform.

Podcast Namespace Standards

The podcast namespace is also an open-source movement and invites any developers to participate in the expansion of this standard.

Apps that support the standard can be found at http://newpodcastapps.com/

In theory, this means live game streams will appear as "Live" podcasts in apps that support that functionality. VODs would appear as Podcast Episodes in the same apps.

You can also use this underlying framework to build similar streaming value or subscription and boost payments into the Open Streaming Platform to add functions similar to Twitch and other game stream platforms for viewers to support content creators.

Implementing RSS feeds with the podcasting namespace improves discoverability because streamers can submit their RSS feeds to PodcastIndex, Apple, Google, and Spotify. Apps that support the Live tag will notify their users of a live stream in progress. VODs can share comments across federated platforms because the VOD comment or post can be placed in the RSS feed for decentralized access across multiple podcasting apps.

In short, a live stream can notify app users of the live stream and link to it. After the live stream becomes a VOD, it becomes available as a podcast episode and also has the ability to use federated social networks for an ongoing comment thread.

This is all huge for discoverability and decentralization.
