It is not enough to have the command line tools installed.
Tried to install on 10.9 but it failed.

possible fix: add depends_on :xcode

Does it compile if you install Xcode?

Yes it does. Sorry I didn't make that clear in my initial comment.

I have installed XCode and added the depends_on statement to the formula, but still I cannot build qt5. I still run into issue #23480

I think the Xcode dependency is still needed and unrelated to #23480. Without Xcode already ./configure breaks. I was compiling qt5.2 beta as suggested in #23480 when I ran into the xcode issue.

I'm going to close this, let's say "duplicate of #23480". If you want an xcode dep added, please just open a pull request to do that.
