From time to time, mastodon users are beset by a spam attack wherein the attacked creates accounts on many different servers and uses them to send messages which mention various users. Sometimes I recieve upwards of 20 notifications about such spam posts in a day.

I propose a system for notifications that would flag any post that mentions the user as spam, unless the user follows the sender or the sender follows the user (this could be an optional setting). All posts flagged as spam could be collected in a spam inbox seperate from the normal notifications area, and would not generate a push notification. The spam inbox could be accessed from the notifications interface, as an additional tab at the top next to "everything" and "mentions". The user could mark any legitimate message as "not spam", which would move the message into the normal notifications area and whitelist the sender's posts from being flagged as spam.
