Multi MiSTer

If you're using more than one MiSTer on the same network there are multiple files that need to be changed to access your MiSTers over the network. This quick script and support files set a MiSTer as MiSTer-P1 (Player 1), MiSTer-P2 (Player 2), MiSTer-P3 (Player 3), MiSTer-P4 (Player 4).

Installation

  • Download this repository as a ZIP.
  • Extract to /media/fat/ on your MiSTer.
  • Run linux_p1, linux_p2, etc. from your MiSTer.
  • The script should reboot for you. Your MiSTer will startup in its new configuration.

Details

The scripts linux_p1.sh, linux_p2.sh, etc. do the work. 3 files are copied from the /media/fat/linux directory to the rootfs file system.

  • u-boot.txt - sets the MAC address
  • hostname - sets the hostname
  • hosts - sets DNS for localhost

Other Considerations

  • The MAC addresses I used contain proper encoding for the initial bytes. If you want to extend this script past P4 be sure to change only the last few bytes.
  • To avoid collision with stock MiSTers, I change the MAC address on P1. If you have statically assigned an IP via your router's DHCP server you'll need to update that.
  • ssh will complain the first time you connect about this being a new device.
  • Some utility scripts provided with the MiSTer use a uname check to ensure the hostname is MiSTer. That's terrible practice and widely understood to be a bad idea. I edit these scripts and delete the uname check.

Troubleshooting

These should just work. It's not complicated!
