Describe the bug

The UI resets when I change my user role. For example, if I have sidebar open to simulation (in the default view) and then I change from the "viewer" to "user" role (so that I can simulate the plan) the UI will reset and I need to select the simulation sidebar again.

I know there is a technical reason that the UI does this, but it's very annoying as a user.

Reproduction

Using the default view, set the sidebar to simulation, then change roles.
