seems likely that it has something to do with new ldfo_sad_plot_line function

removing it in the docs directory removed rendering of the plots in the gitbook.

not surprisingly - removing it from the main repo directory did not affect the gitbook

seems like perhaps some sort of environment issue.

could try removing the calls to iteratively generate the axis label for which
element is used as col_y too. shouldn't matter but worth a test
