@Ericson2314 mentioned a couple times how cleaning up GCC would make a lot of other improvements in nixpkgs possible.

One issue that was mentioned is #132343

I've been thinking about splitting out the GNU C++ standard library from the gcc package recently. It's a bit beyond my ability to do by myself currently, but if anyone is working on it and wants help, let me know.
