MCM vs VR Menu Mouse

I can't exit the game's system menu if I hover my VR Menu Mouse cursor where the list of MCM mods would be if MCM was open. Attempting to close the game menu via hotkey makes MCM appear for an instant with a highlighted mod under my cursor. Then MCM immediately closes instead, leaving me back at the game menu. MCM seems to intercept the hotkey when it's supposed to be inactive.

In other words I have to first move my cursor away from the left side of the game menu to prevent MCM from capturing focus/input. Then I can properly return to the game.
