A basic transitive access widener to the relevant register methods would allow for basic cases like modded bows and crossbows being able to animate properly; A more advanced system, however, would greatly expand the horizons of the vanilla system in order to allow for much more in a way that remains mod-compatible (am looking at you, namespaceless modded model predicates)
Chime and its offerings should be targetted as the kind of model predicates that this system should support
