Currently, the sales endpoint only returns the $payment->number but not the post_id of the related payment/order.

When you want to link from an external application directly to the order details screen, the link looks as follows:

edit.php?post_type=download&page=edd-payment-history&view=view-order-details&id=123

and needs the post_id of the order/payment to work.
