Bitwarden Beta

  • I'm using the new native Bitwarden Beta app and I'm aware that legacy .NET app bugs should be reported in bitwarden/mobile

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Go to any Secure note or Login entry with information in the "Notes" field.
  2. Attempt to select text in the "Notes" field. All you can do is copy everything in the entire "Notes" field to the clipboard. You cannot select text of your choosing in the "Notes" field. This is broken in the Swift BitWarden app. It worked fine in the legacy .NET app.

Expected Result

As was the case with the legacy .NET app, one should be able to use the built-in iOS functionality to tap and hold and select text in a "Notes" field and then at least "copy" (or possibly perform other functions on that selected text). That said, if a user taps and holds on a blank area of the "Notes" field, then it makes sense to offer a "Copy entire Notes field" option or at least the standard iOS "Select" or "Select All" options.

Actual Result

As stated above, all you can do is copy everything in the entire "Notes" field to the clipboard. You cannot select text of your choosing in the "Notes" field. This is broken in the Swift BitWarden app. It worked fine in the legacy .NET app.

Issue #899 was not properly fixed. Nothing was done about the ability to select the text in a "Notes" field that you want to copy. I rarely ever want to select all text in a "Notes" field and copy it. I want to select something specific from the text in a "Notes" field and copy that.

Build Version

2024.9.0 (1080)

Environment Details

iPhone 15 Pro Max
iOS 18.1 Beta 3 (22B5034e) now Beta 4 (22B5045g)

iPad Pro 11" 4th Generation
iPadOS 18.1 Beta 3 (22B5034e) now Beta 4 (22B5045g)

** I don't think the iOS/iPadOS has anything to do with the issue of the functionality in the 2024.9.0 Swift version of BitWarden.

Issue Tracking Info

  • I understand that work is tracked outside of Github. A PR will be linked to this issue should one be opened to address it, but Bitwarden doesn't use fields like "assigned", "milestone", or "project" to track progress.

Hi there,

I am unable to reproduce this issue but it has been escalated for further investigation. If you have more information that can help us, please add it below.

Thanks!

As I mentioned in my comment for Issue #899 (see #899 (comment)), this issue has existed since I started testing the BitWarden 2024.8.0 beta for iOS/iPadOS via TestFlight back on August 10th or 11th. Granted, 2024.8.0 was worse. You could not interact with the information in a "Notes" field at all. All you could do is view the information.

It still shocks me that BitWarden ever thought it was okay to release 2024.8.0 to the public as a replacement for 2024.7.1. It was very buggy and missing features that everyone was used to having. (Completely unacceptable!) 2024.9.0 is an improvement, though you can only view what is in a "Notes" field or copy ALL information from a "Notes" field. Being able to select part of the text in a "Notes" field and only copy that is functionality that has existed ever since my family and I started using BitWarden in January 2023.

This happened to me too. Now it’s way too difficult to select anything, the keyboard keeps showing, pushing up the text.

I am having the same issue as well, this makes the app un-useable for me after previously working so well!
I am using 2024.9.2 (1106) on an iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 18.
My Secure notes I can no longer select part of that note & copy & paste. This was a great feature that I use a lot. If I go to edit the note to put in a new line or word etc the page jumps down to the bottom and I can’t see where I’m typing.
I really like this app & would like to know if this will be fixed?

Happens to me as well. Before the most recent update (I'm currently using 2024.9.2 (1106)), you could push and hold onto a word within the NOTES section and it would highlight that specific Word. Now it just pops up a 'Copy' | 'Share...' button over the whole NOTES content box that you can select.. When you go into Edit mode for the Secure Note and try to select the same text (more steps than previous version), the notes content box bounces up and down and eventually positions itself at the last line of the NOTES content box (probably a separate issue) and you can't select the word that might be in the middle of a 2-3 page secure note.
