This issue tracks the information and approvals needed to publish this repo to Zenodo (complete with DOI!). As a reminder, we can publish additional versions in the future if we want to add more content (e.g., the workshop materials).

Questions to resolve

The most authentic way to publish this is as software. If we go that route, Zenodo will archive the repo (as zip file).

  • Instead of publishing as software, we could publish as a report (or something else?). Would this be preferable? Yes, this isn't really software
  • Should we submit additional files, like the rendered website as a PDF? No, the md files and link to the rendered website are sufficient

Content for entry

  • Issue DOI through Zenodo ("Do you already have a DOI for this upload?")
  • Resource type: Report
  • Title: Open Source Scientific Software Archetypes
  • Publication date: TBA
  • License: Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 4.0 International (default)

Description:

This information resource was developed by the Open Source Working Group at Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. It presents a framework and guidelines for the many ways of doing OSS in science, and is based on the Mozilla OSS Archetypes. We set out to create a set of resources to help project developers and teams:

  • Understand different models of open source projects
  • Identify which of these models is most appropriate for achieving their project’s goals
  • Prioritize the most important open source best practices with tailored recommendations based on their archetype

The GitHub repository containing this content (all in Markdown) is archived here. The original repository on GitHub (https://github.com/chanzuckerberg/oss-archetypes) and website rendering the content via GitHub pages (https://chanzuckerberg.github.io/oss-archetypes/) are also available.
