we should possibly support LINES / COLUMNS environment variables #1116

These are often (sometimes? rarely?) used to communicate screen geometry to subprocesses, and/or restrict said subprocesses to some subset of the screen. We might want to support them. pty-in-a-pty (#487) would seem to require this? Or perhaps not? Depends on how we provide a pty backend, I suppose. My knowledge is admittedly incomplete regarding these ancient magicks of the UNIX environment.

NCURSES and others (less(1), for instance) use these only as secondary information to ioctl(), so it wouldn't even work to restrict their output. I think we can provide this via better mechanisms. Closing as non-fix.
