For some reason, I just can not download xfce on my Acer C7(non-ARM) device.

"Failed to retreive InRelease" isn't actually an error, and shouldn't stop the download. Could you please post the command you used and the resulting output?

sudo sh -e ~/Downloads/crouton -t xfce

Oh, okay, it's detecting too specific an architecture. Add -a i386 to the command line and it should work. I'll add a fix for the auto-detect soon. Thanks for finding this!
