The latest release increases FPS, but in one of the prologue videos the game crashes.

I just started a new game with DXVK and watched all the intro videos. It didn't crash for me.

It seems that the matter is in HD textures. Everything works without the following mods:
The Witcher Overhaul Project
The Witcher EE - Kaer Morhen HD REMASTER (textures from TW3)
AI Upscale Textures

I have the exact same bug. When using no mods and using DXVK v1.8.1 the application simply crashes when starting the game but the menu seems to work fine. But without DXVK it runs fine but there are a lot of performance hits (Like only 20 fps I think). So I really need DXVK for this.

I'm using Windows GOG version of The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition in Linux with Wine 6.5

I tested this with high resolution texture mods and for me turning shadows to medium or high instead of low and turning on AA crashes the game immediately otherwise it's fine. I am talking about the witcher 1 enhanced edition directors cut

@jochuan Which mod are u using? I tried on windows to play through the prologue with the same mods as the OP but didn't encounter a crash.
If i installed them correctly that is. Put all the files into the Data\Override folder

I removed all the HD textures from the game but now instead of crashing when you begin to play the game it is crashing after a while, mostly when there is too many enemies on the screen or when is raining.

I don't know how to build it myself. My main OS is windows and i also have linux as a dual boot but i don't have too much experience using it. If you can guide me in how i can do that i would appreciate it. (I only had one experience building the citra emulator ).

I already tried the PR even with the new commits from 5 days ago but the problem still persists. Anyway i got a 7gb trace file but for some motive the game doesn't crash when i run it through the apitrace program, should i send this file or should i try to generate a file with less size ?

@jochuan that's fine and expected. apitrace just tried to log every directx call that the game makes without modifying it in any way. Which is why the files get so big and it's slow.
The trace can then be replayed with or without dxvk on the devs own machine to see what the game does.

If you compress it (they usually compress very well) and upload it to a common cloud/file sharing site then you can just link to it here for download.

I was trying to use a software called apitrace but looks like it doesn't work with vulkan so for some motive the game was reseting to use Direct3D9 instead of the dxvk .dll when i was trying to get a trace file with it and that explains why it wasn't crashing. So after some search i found a software called Renderdoc but it works in a different way i think, instead of creating a file while the game is running looks like i can capture frames of it ? And those frame archives have informations about the events of the code ? I don't know if it is the same thing as what apitrace does but i gonna send the files that i got with it anyways. (And with this renderdoc software looks like the game is running on vulkan and crashing as before).

apitrace it the correct software, it captures directx indeed. It's supposed to be used instead of dxvk, not together with it. It has dll's that can be put next to the games exe same way as dxvk which will hook onto the game and create a trace when you launch it normally. Or that is the easiest way atleast, it also has gui tools.

That's exactly what we need. Apitrace records all Direct3D9 calls. We can then replay that apitrace file either with DXVK or WineD3D or even on Windows. Replaying it with DXVK usually shows the issue and then we can start debugging it (with Renderdoc for example) and messing with DXVK until it works. The big advantage of recording the D3D9 calls is that we can check whether a DXVK change fixes a problem. A Vulkan capture would stay fixed. Besdies that, Vulkan Renderdoc captures are not portable, that means you can analyze them on the same driver as the one they were recorded on. So your Renderdoc capture made on the Windows AMD Vulkan driver is unfortunately entirely useless for me because I use an Nvidia GPU.

Did you make that apitrace with texture mods installed? DXVK tops out at 384 MB when replaying it, which usually shouldn't cause any address space crashes. It also doesn't crash (holy shit, you made quite a long apitrace).

No, the game is crashing for me without texture mods installed after some time (Around 5 or 20 minutes when transitioning between areas) but if i use a texture mod it normally crashes when i am entering in the game.

EDIT: I think that i will try to test later today disabling all amd settings on the game, since it isn't crashing for you maybe it is something related with some image improvement setting on the amd driver.

Even after disabling all amd settings the game still crashed but it took more time for it to crash. Looks like i will have to play the rest of the game using Direct3D9 even with the stutters... Thank you guys for trying to help though.

The crash is random. I was testing now and for the first time i was able to play more than one hour without it crashing then i thought that it was the MSI afterburner overlay that was making it crash since i was not using it during this one hour of playthrough. So i exited the game and decided to test with the overlay and it crashed quickly and then i tried without it and it crashed again...

Closing this because of a lack of feedback. Address space usage in DXVK master has been drastically reduced so that should hopefully fix it.

If it still crashes, please reopen the issue or make a new one.
