We need to research and document the websites of software providers
that sell Apps for a one-time up-front fee, i.e: no recurring payments.

Story

As a person who wants to use software
I want to pay for it once up-front not have to pay for it in perpetuity,
So that:
a) I don't have to worry about making continued payments and cards expiring etc.
b) I know exactly how much something is going to cost and can compare effectively

Also, if I give the App to someone else [e.g. as gift], I'm not giving them a White Elephant.
That is the case with something like a MasterClass Subscription where they encourage people to offer the sub as an Xmas/Holidays gift. But as soon as the introductory/discounted offer expires, the renewal is full price; i.e. expensive!! 💸

Luckily someone else has had a similar question: https://www.reddit.com/r/ios/comments/u7fjfi/best_paid_apps_or_apps_with_onetime_in_app/
So we have a good staring point.

Todo

  • Find 10 Apps that are sold as a one-time payment and open an issue for each one.
  • Capture as much detail on each one as possible including full-page screenshots of the homepage, features and pricing pages.

Note: From an ongoing cost perspective,
I don't think we can afford to make our App a one-time purchase
because we want to emphasise the teamwork/cooperation aspect.
That requires storing data on a Server,
and Servers [with decent performance and redundancy] aren't free.
But ... if there was demand for "single player mode"
from people who don't want to collaborate with anyone else ...
We could consider making that an <option> ... 💭
Though in my view these people should just use the App for FREE
because there is ZERO Marginal Cost to their usage.

"Things 3" #14 is given as an example in the Reddit thread in the OP.
It's a classic example of a "one-time purchase" software that works for a couple of years
but they deliberately don't add the newer features to
so that they can sell you "V3" for another $9.99 (for each device).
