Your use case
A user or a group of users might find confusing that the profile (AKA both name and avatar) displayed for a message in the room timeline reflects the historical room state, rather than the latest room state. (which means that a person that changes their avatar or display name, might have multiple profiles showing up on the course of a timeline).
While this is an intended default application behavior, an option to override it and only show the latest profile on historical messages could be implemented.

It should be:
Easy to set as the default behavior for any application fork
Available as a labs setting
