Pasting a matrix.to link into the Direct Message UX fails #16066

I guess you're right... it does feel buggy not to be able to roundtrip matrix IDs in and out of different bits of Element, though :P |
Closing in favour of #21695 that has a better description. Also leaving a comment there that mentions the current behaviour. |

If you copy a mxid out of Element, it copies to the clipboard as a matrix.to link
If you paste that into the 'new DM' UX, you get an error response:
Failed to find the following users
The following users might not exist or are invalid, and cannot be invited:
https://matrix.to/#/@bob:example.com
