Steps to reproduce

  • When messaging @neilj:matrix.org
  • Sending him a message before he'd responded to the invitation
  • Neil's client reported `Unable to decrypt: Unknown encryption algorithm "undefined".

Describe how what happens differs from what you expected.

Hmm, maybe a duplicate of #16507

Hmm, curious, I haven't seen this before. It does similar to, but not quite the same as #16507.
