Steps to reproduce

  1. Use a linux distribution with a dock, e.g. Ubuntu Budgie
  2. Install Element Desktop Nightly
  3. Set a custom icon for element desktop via an icon theme
  4. Launch Element Desktop Nightly

Outcome

What did you expect?

Element Desktop Nightly is shown a single time in the dock, with its correct icon

What happened instead?

Element Desktop Nightly is shown twice in the dock, one time as a launcher with the correct icon, and one time as a currently running task without a proper icon

Cause

Element Desktop Nightly sets the StartupWMClass of the window to element-nightly. The .desktop file for element desktop nightly specifies StartupWMClass=element. As these values differ, docks can’t know that the .desktop file and running application match.

Ubuntu Budgie 22.04 (jammy)

Application version

Element Nightly version: 2022042501 Olm version: 3.2.8
