I’m curious what enables the Chrome browser support.

I am using Brave Browser (based on Chromium) which has significant overlap with Chrome compatibility. Is there a chrome:// flag I could flip that would make esp-web-tools work with Brave? Or is the compatibility being determined by something like a user agent string or what?

Never mind, I just found an issue that makes it clear that Brave has disabled the web serial API.
