It would be nice to have an option to set a board around the the color box this would be good for colors like white or that are not very visible.

I created an Angular directive using the code from @flaute and did some css updates to consider light colors, too. My approach is quite simple. It covers only white (#FFF), but you can easily enhance it to other colors. See http://plnkr.co/edit/EDhb8vGIGAPBMBkw9HVs?p=preview
