Description

The Gnome extension, Desktop Icons NG (DING) does not seem to play well with Forge. This is a default extension installed with Ubuntu.

Problem Explanation

When toggling through active windows (Super + h,l), there is an invisible window that gets selected, and can be "moved" around. This is confusing behavior.

Additionally, this can occasionally become the foreground window, and so windows become unresponsive to mouse clicks (instead drawing a desktop selection rectangle over the window)

Expected Behavior

Forge should completely ignore the DING application and should not affect it's behavior.

Alternatively, DING can be disabled in the Extension manager which fixes all issues associated with it. Simply mentioning in the README that Desktop Icons NG may cause conflicts and is recommended to be disabled would help a lot with new users to Forge. And since it's a default Ubuntu extension, I imagine it could affect a lot of users.

Thanks for the Forge extension, it's amazing!

Hi @cdoolin - yeah, DING also causes the tabbed layout to not work properly.

Here is a preview where it causes a js error and the tab header does not show.

@cdoolin - can you check the PR or branch and see if it works for you?

I was having trouble replicating the bug, but then realized it only seems to happen with Wayland 😅

And #247 seems to fix the issue!
