As a User I need a normalized classification

There are two ways classification is usually presented.

1. Flat classification.

2. Parent/Child classification (via parentNameUsageID)

If flat classification exist, we use it.

The parentNameUsageID is overloaded and can be used sometimes for synonyms. So it is semantically fuzzy. We generate flat classification, filtering out possible synonyms.

We probably keep resulting classification in a key/value store.
