I'm frustrated that tempo often discards traces with LIVE_TRACES_EXCEEDED errors. In my attempts to set an appropriate value for max_traces_per_user, it would be useful to know what the current value is.

The solution that would be helpful would be a metric displaying the current number of live traces.

I have not considered alternative solutions.
