I would propose, that where relevant, additional commentary be added to the rule to highlight a widely utilized variation to the rule. Example: Bonuses Assigned vs Jumping.

Districts are encouraged to modify the rule book to best suit their specific needs. However, if the leadership in the district has not encountered a variation of a rule, they will not know of alternate ways of executing a rule.

This may be better suited for a best practice style addon, called "Rule Variations" to better differentiate alternatives from what will be utilized at IBQ. However, a new section header called "Non-IBQ Rule Variant" or something similar should have the same effect.

Utilizing such a system whether in a separate document or within the rule document will help continue to erase colloquial knowledge of the rule system.

I think it would be best and clearest if we had rule variations in a section right next to the rule which the variation is overriding, instead of having one dedicated section... but, we will want to use identical and consistent nomenclature throughout the rulebook so that it is easy for anyone to do a Ctrl+F and immediately be able to find ALL rule variations in the rulebook.

I think instead of referencing IBQ specifically, we could call these sections "Alternative Rule" and add a clause somewhere in the rulebook indicating that these alternative rules can be adopted at any competition at the discretion of the meet director. It would be considered standard practice for IBQ to use the main rule and never the alternative rule, but if the meet director desired they could change over to the Alternative Rule and announce it.
