It looks like the relevant part of the lengthy stack trace you have posted is this line:

ERROR: Failed building wheel for blis

Perhaps this isn't an issue with ChatterBot, but rather one of its dependencies?

You may be able to confirm this further by trying to install that package directly. For example:

pip3 install blis

(Although this suggestion probably won't solve the installation issue, hopefully it helps confirm what the source of the error is.)

Don't know if this will help. I had trouble installing under 3.7 until I ran the following
sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y python3-pip libatlas-base-dev
pip3 install --user numpy cython
BLIS_ARCH="generic" pip3 install --user spacy --no-binary=blis
python3 -m spacy info

Now it is working fine

I had same error message with blis installation "error: [WinError 2] The system cannot find the file specified".

I'm running Chatterbot on Windows in Miniconda (Anaconda) environment. I found out that as I didn't create Miniconda environment with a Python version or a specific package, I was actually using my system Python 3.8.0 which has some specifically installed packages upon default installation.

Solved problem by creating minimal Miniconda environment with Python 3.7.7. Installed spacy (including blis) without problems, Chatterbot runs now fine. :)

So it was some kind of dependency problem I guess, don't know cause of it exactly.

I noticed that spacy has been left out of the default installation but I couldn't run Chatterbot, at least ListTrainer, without spacy.

If you are working on Windows then Follow this steps.

1. Microsoft Visual C++ 14.0 or greater is required.
2. Get it with "Microsoft C++ Build Tools": https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/visual-cpp-build-tools/
3. Download and install c++ build tools.
4. Now try to install packages.

@sciutrux its because spacy 2.1.9 only has a wheel up to python 3.7, anything above that requires installing from source, which has known issues. we need #1963 to hit so we can upgrade spacy, and get to python 3.8 and above.
