Per discussion in indieweb/wordpress-uf2/issues/29 I'm proposing starting a 2.0 milestone in which the IndieWeb WordPress plugin is strictly an installer of the other IndieWeb related plugins.
This would include removing all functionality from the IW plugin and move to the MF2 plugin and agreeing on a new (or improved) UI for walking new users through installing and configuring the required plugin.
Goals would include keeping within the WordPress admin UI aesthetic and simplifying the on boarding experience to users both new to the IndieWeb tools as well as WordPress.
#72 has some notes about the onboarding experience as well as a specific issue with the Getting started page. Is that different from the installer/proposed wizard?

2.0 Strictly an Installer
Proposal: Release 2.0 Strictly as an installer

I am willing to resume the discussion on moving the rel-me stuff out, but I'd build it into a new plugin about identity and bring in an h-card widget, function, and shortcode, something I've held off on doing but am revisiting because my h-card broke itself. I may try creating a project for this. There were a lot of ideas I got from https://github.com/singpolyma/wordpress-extended-profile that I always wanted to put in. I may experiment with this. I can always fold it back in later on.
MF2, because it is trying to add Microformats to themes, probably should still remain minimalist.
But we keep going back on the Indieweb plugin having actual functionality or not because people get surprised something is just a plugin installer and get upset it doesn't clearly do something.
