OLIP is a docker based platform from Biblioteques sans Frontiers connected to the Off-Line-Internet consortium.

Platform specific issues.

Being Docker its only going to be appropriate for bigger machines, i.e. I'd hate to be running two apps simultaneousy on a Raspberry Pi!

They are using a pretty hard version lock, Florian sounded like this might be fixable as otherwise OLIP installs will always be sub-par (i.e. with bugs fixed in the npm distro).

Status

  • Can install from dockerfile - need to be able to update
  • Search partly done (does remote, not local, no indication of if downloaded)
  • maybe needs authentication (Dev - below)
  • Open concerns - see below

Concerns with OLIP that need addressing at summit

  • Efficiency running in Docker
  • Difficulty of debugging in Docker
  • Distribution thru IPFS: They dropped it (reliability, bandwidth)
  • Compatibility with running as a server on a WiFi where it is not wifi point - especially why the app cant redirect to the incoming host rather than fixed name
  • Access to external drives, and other apps. (e..g if ran mediawiki)

Development

  • Test DM on it - need to know how to install
    • Port handling ?
  • Authentication API
  • Search API (see OLIP - Opensearch implementation #301 )
  • Backporting these functions to IIAB
  • Think about persistent dweb-mirror.config.yaml
  • Check email chain for any extant issues.

Future

  • Content packages, are these relevant to IA and how to integrate with their configuration

WiFi and DNS weirdness

Olip has a somewhat odd configuration in terms of its use of absolute names, or presumed IP addresses, which fail depending on network configuration.

I'm going to try and find some use cases ... but this seems to be a problem ....
