Changing the shortcode

Great plugin ... I've been using it for several years and it's great. Many thanks.

I'm starting to write some things in Markdown which I then export as HTML and move into the Wordpress editor (long story, to do with transitioning to a static site). The underscore in the shortcode messes up the Markdown to HTML transition.

Is changing the shortcode to something that is Markdown-compatible as simple as just editing easy-footnotes.php at around line 60 (in public function __construct() )?
