Activemq Testbed

Test bed for playing with activemq and making dev env broker setup / sharing as seamless as possible in a team environment.

The goal is to be able to run the broker, producer and consumer from mvn. This means you can git clone this project to a server, tweak the code/configuration and then just use maven to run it. No need for run scripts and redploying jars.

The broker module

An activemq 5.6 version of the maven broker plugin example provided in the amq doco -> http://activemq.apache.org/maven2-activemq-broker-plugin.html.

To spin up the broker:

  1. Edit the following properties in the broker/pom.xml file to match your environment, but only if you want the admin web console to work, otherwise they are not needed.
<activemq.home.dir>C:\dev\java\servers\apache-activemq-5.6.0</activemq.home.dir>
<java.version>1.7.0_07</java.version>
  1. Run the following maven command to start the broker from the broker sub module. This will start a broker on port '61616' using the configuration file ./src/test/resources/activemq.xml and an admin web console at http://localhost:8161/admin
mvn activemq:run

The producer module

Run the following maven command from the producer sub module to start the message producer. There is one spring context file 'producer-context.xml' and one Java class file 'Producer.java' involved here.

mvn exec:java

The consumer module

Run the following maven command from the consumer sub module to start the message consumer. There is one spring context file 'consumer-context.xml' and one Java class file 'Consumer.java' involved here.

mvn exec:java
