Loading and saving data is much faster in {geopandas} if {pyogrio} is installed:
https://pyogrio.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

This feature will be soon available by default, but Martin suggested checking it out now.

It will be implemented in the upcoming (geopandas) 1.0.0.
