On macOS 13 (I used “BitsNPicas-MacOS11.0” which seemed to be closest), this won’t launch without having Java installed, but I don’t want to install Java because it’s adware and tends to leave background processes running that cause interruptions and security vulnerabilities. My understanding is that most Java-based Mac apps nowadays include the runtime in the .app somehow so it doesn’t have to be installed system-wide. Would it be possible to package Bits’n’picas that way?

I run Bits'n'Picas on the OpenJDK. It's certainly possible to bundle Java in a Mac app. XML Mind XML Editor does it. But it's a pain for the maintainer because then they have to track updates to Java.

I wish this didn't require a separate Java install
Bundle Java runtime with Mac OS X app
Sep 22, 2023
My opinion is that this program is just for editing fonts, not for downloading Java, and don't need for embed Java for its update frequency. BTW Java is much bigger than the BnPs itself.
