The semantic role of the embedded verb should be a specific role since we have specific roles for the embedding verb. But we do not know the semantic role of the subject.

Ah, OK. But the formal tools of HPSG do not include variables over feature names. If you assume this, you should state this in a footnote. Otherwise it will be confusing. At least it confused me.
