Cinnamon version: last commited version from git repository

Currently is not possible share the screen on skype, it does allow to start sharing but other people don't see anything.

Researching I found gnome 3 people already fix the on gnome 3.4

Here is the thread about the fixing:

I am running Cinnamon 1.6.7 on Ubuntu 12.04 with 3.2.0-37-generic kernel. When I share the screen on Skype, the desktop freezes. Do you experience the same thing?

Screen sharing works here but full screen area are moved to bottom and don`t include upper bar. The same problem is with screen recording software.

Yeah same thing happens to me, desktop freezes, only thing that works is right click. Im using linux mint 15 with cinnamon.

I'm having this issue running Mint 14 with Cinnamon and Skype 4.2.
Currently the only workaround I found was doing a "Share Selection" instead.

Skype 4.2.0.11, Linux Mint 15 - the same issue. Sharing screen freezes and need to drop call to return control.

Same here, pretty annoying, as I need to use screen sharing often.

Can anybody try this with the current git version of muffin?

linuxmint/muffin#86 or linuxmint/muffin#110 could have fixed this.

Hmm... not a C developer, but I know enough to use make and configure... is there any way to try this out without having to overwrite the main install of Muffin on a Ubuntu 12.04?

I recommend to have it overwrite the old one, then you'll be sure that the new muffin is used.

./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
make
sudo make install

Afterwards you could reinstall the old muffin by reinstalling all its packages,
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libmuffin0 muffin gir1.2-muffin-3.0 muffin-common libmuffin-dev

Hi, I've installed and been running Cinnamon 2 for a few days.
Now screen sharing almost works 100%. The only remaining odd bit is that whenever screen sharing starts the menu and app panel disappear, so one has to ALT-TAB to reach other apps. However, the panel comes back the very moment screen sharing is terminated.

That is probably related to the way Cinnamon is rendering these. The X server does not draw the menu, panels, and other parts of the Cinnamon UI, they are laid over the screen contents using Clutter (OpenGL). If Skype is using some X function to get the screen contents, it will not see the Cinnamon UI elements.

Interesting. I actually left out a detail: the windows expand and take the place of the panel, that is, they do re-layout when screen sharing starts, and back when it's closed.

With the last stable Cinnamon version included on Linux Mint 16, skype sharing seems to work fine

@juandlr do you still have problems? Else I'll close the bug.

(Other comments are from before mint 16 release, so I assume their problems have been fixed)

Mint 17, Cinnamon 2.2.13, the panel still disappears when screen sharing with Skype.

Using linux mint 17 and latest skype 4.3, still same problem

Should I just make a new issue for my problem? This issue is more about freezing instead of screen sharing issues in general. Especially since my issue extends to Screen Studio.

Mint 17, Cinnamon 2.2.16, Skype 4.3 - same issue. Share screen window doesn't open at all

@fisch246 I'm also seeing this issue with Cinnamon 2.6.13 - a little over a year later. Is this being worked on? Has it been forgotten? It's extremely annoying, in any case.

@academo, is this still an issue for you in Cinnamon 3.6?

@JosephMcc, since there is no response from OP for a long time, can we close this issue?

Hi there. I am not longer using cinnamon so I can't confirm if the bug is still present or not. I guess if someone has this issue can open a new issue

In Mint 18.2 / Cinnamon 3.4.4 with the latest Skype client it is already not a problem anymore, so please close. Could also have been a fix on Skype's end though as the present version is more stable anway than the 4.3 client.
