Has anybody got this to work with an external DAC please? I imagine this means enabling ALSA support. I'm using Raspbian and get picture but no sound. Thank you.

The audio output, including audio/video sync is handled by the GPU in the Pi, and (unless things have changed in the last year or so), the GPU can't talk to USB audio devices.

So this isn't easily possible.

Thanks for that. I'd naively assumed since mplayer worked it might be possible. Maybe that's because I bought the MPEG licence.
