Not 100%, but often the rendering is not refreshed to scale out to the size of the rendering widget. It fixes upon a window resize. Possibly after loading a saved configuration, there is nothing to force it to resize if necessary?

I've never seen it but I've installed a laptop with KUbuntu Xenial just in case it matters. I'll try to reproduce it.

Maybe worth trying it on fast and slow pc's to see if it's a timing thing (I'm getting it on both my fast PC's, but haven't tried my laptop yet).

Breadcrumb! Seems to be a pattern that only occurs on the first launch after an install.

  • Do a make install from the workspace
  • Launch all_cars_in_dragway.py ⇨ rendered part lurks only in the corner
  • Resize the window ⇨ rendered part properly fills the window
  • Quit
  • Relaunch ⇨ fine!
  • Quit & Relaunch ⇨ fine!

Could you try the caguero/issue_110 branch to check whether if fixes the issue for you or not?
