This works:

to-boolean(3)

This does not:

to-boolean(to-boolean(3))

Real-world example:

case(to-boolean(feature-state('selected')), 'red', 'transparent')

This is a showstopper for me.

If it's hard to make parsing with hyphens work, maybe a workaround would be supporting camel case:

case(toBoolean(featureState('selected'), 'red', 'transparent')
