Windows 20211 dev build. Ubuntu 20.04 [ 6.164013] init: (1) ERROR: MountPlan9WithRetry:285: mount drvfs on /mnt/c (cache=mmap,noatime,msize=262144,trans=virtio,aname=drvfs;path=C:;uid=1000;gid=1000;symlinkroot=/mnt/ [ 6.186116] init: (9) ERROR: UtilTranslatePathList:2662: Failed to translate C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Oracle\Java\javapath [ 6.186291] init: (9) ERROR: UtilTranslatePathList:2662: Failed to translate C:\WINDOWS\system32 [ 52.957162] hv_balloon: Max. dynamic memory size: 8192 MB I can't access my c drives. Does anyone know what might be causing this? |
not sure about this particular error but the following bookmarks might help
YOU may find that you have to remove the following 4 windows features
Hyper-v (later do not add this back in)
containers (will add back in)
virtual machine platform (will add back in)
Windows hypervisor platform (will add back in)
remove ubuntu or other linux containers that you have
remove docker
delete %AppData%\Docker\ will be locks on the file will have to figure a
way to stop mutagen keeps restarting while deleting unfortunately
this will delete all custom kernels (this might be your problem ) uname -r
in linux will show if its the default microsoft kernel, you probably would
know if you built a custom kernel anyway)
remove kernel from your c:/User/<username>/ root folder
delete %AppData%\Docker Desktop (if it still remains)
possibly do a system restore till before patch that interferes with disks
(its a recent patch forget which one) this may not remove it wasnt my
problem with a similar problem
reboot twice
do a system restore checkpoint
enable windows preview features and install all the patches (except that
one mentioned if avoidable--sorry I forget which patch it is) fairly recent
one)
rollback to before August 20th or so (whatever tuesday that was with system
restore if necessary (might not be though)
now that everything is clean look through the attached tabs especially
https://docs.nvidia.com/cuda/wsl-user-guide/index.html
but read all the tabs listed carefully see where they differ
also to get Jupyter notebooks working after installing it there is an
access denied issue
the following line is an example of one that works . Notice the -v "..."
part
sudo docker run -u $(id -u):$(id -g) -v "${PWD}:/mnt/c" -it --gpus all -p
8888:8888 tensorflow/tensorflow:latest-gpu-py3-jupyter
that's all folks it took me a week to figure all that out!
after removal reboot

Dunno if consider the microsd card a flash drive or USB disk. Did you try the |
I am not sure what module was left out but it turned out to be my custom compiled kernel was at fault fo r this error. It worked for a few days and then I ended up getting docker run -it --rm --gpus all ubuntu nvidia-smi using standard kernel |
8454:00:00.0 SCSI storage controller: Red Hat, Inc. Virtio filesystem (rev 01) |
I get the same experience as OP and I am using the --bare option.
'The remote procedure call failed' error followed by crashing of WSL and loss of BOOT drive D: (in my case). I am trying to mount a usb sd-card though. Is there any formal announcement as to the lack of flash support? |
Thanks for reporting this OP. @ThomasBurgess2000 / @doodlewhale : USB flash drives (and so sd cards) are indeed not supported at this time. This is documented here: This is already covered by #6011, so I'll close this. |
Environment
Steps to reproduce
Try to mount microsd card with Raspberry OS on it.

Expected behavior
https://devblogs.microsoft.com/commandline/access-linux-filesystems-in-windows-and-wsl-2/
Actual behavior
I plug in the microsd and the F: drive labeled boot appears in File Explorer. I do "wsl --mount \.\PHYSICALDRIVE4 --partition 2" and the first time it will say "The remote procedure call failed." At the same time the F: drive will disappear from file explorer and my Ubuntu instance will close. If I then try to call it again it will say "The system cannot find the drive specified."
The output above is from running dmesg in the WSL Ubuntu. I think this is just there because I haven't mounted my encrypted drive at the D: drive.
