The Gatsby Example is broken

I am trying to make gatsby and material-ui work together.
I used https://github.com/mui-org/material-ui/tree/master/examples/gatsby and followed the instructions.

• The issue is present in the latest release.
• I have searched the issues of this repository and believe that this is not a duplicate.

Couldn't find the "gatsby-plugin-top-layout" plugin declared in "/Users/harit/code/js/exp/gatsby/gatsby-config.js".

It seems to be a regression from gatsbyjs/gatsby#19150.

There is a simple workaround (missing index.js), I suggest we wait till the end of the week so we know the direction Gatsby takes: 1. fix the regression or 2. update the documentation to mention the index.js (I would bet it will be 1, but who knows).

Sure, this can wait. However, the larger issue (and the reason I was trying this example) is documented at #18197. This is a blocking issue for developers working with Material-UI and Gatsby.
