Maybe a similar approach to @luizirber's https://github.com/luizirber/nthash? It is a hash for all k-mers, so perhaps a better hash function can be developed for just a sequence nucleotides in binary representation? Or maybe a standard 64-bit integer hash function works, so we don't have to process the nucleotides individually.
