⚠️ Before posting ⚠️

  • This is a bug, not a question or an enhancement.
  • I've searched for similar issues and didn't find a duplicate.
  • I've written a clear and descriptive title for this issue, not just "Bug" or "Crash".
  • I agree to follow Nextcloud's Code of Conduct.

Steps to reproduce

  1. open the Nextcloud app
  2. try to rename a file
  3. the keyboard doesn't appear right away
  4. scroll down the phone's menu OR tap anywhere on the editable text string to bring up the keyboard

Expected behaviour

The keyboard should appear right away, with the texbox containing the file name.

Actual behaviour

The keyboard doesn't show the first time you edit a name. You have to edit a name once for the keyboard to always be shown reght away.
But close the app once and the bad behavior appears again.

Hi @Cwpute - Thanks for your report. I can't reproduce this (at least with v3.26.0 on Android 13).

Can you re-attempt to replicate this with v3.26.0?

If you still see the behavior, it may be tied to your Android version or something along those lines and require further digging.

Potentially related: #12014 #11987

Possibly a duplicate of: #11551

I tried again with 3.26.0 and the results were mixed…

I opened the app and went to rename a file, and surely, first time i tried to the keyboard didn't appear. I was about to report the problem was still there, but i figured i should test it further.
Trying again on the same file made the keyboard appear, as previously reported… but other files in the app would bring up the keyboard immediately.
So i closed the app, and tried again, but this time renaming the file would always bring up the keyboard. Just to be sure, i went and restarted my smartphone as to close everything, and tried again: again, this time, renaming the file would always bring up the keyboard.

I'll have to test it further, and read about the issues you reported.

Had a quick read about #11551 : i'm not sure it has anything to do with my own issue. Or perhaps something related to focus ? maybe when the dialog appears the focus is not on the text-box.

About #12014 and #11987 : cannot say anything, will have to see if my (seemingly) gone issue is fixed.

I had a feeling it may have something to do with the keyboard already being open in other apps but… no, it seems it doesn't.

Decided to do some more testing today… which contradicts my previous report.

Now the keyboard never appears on the first time renaming a file after starting the Nextcloud app, regarding of the file name or type. If the app is still open, all succeeding attempts will bring up the keyboard as expected.
You have to close the app in the Active Apps tab of your phone and open it again to trigger this behavior.

But i see the modifications were merged, so i will wait for an update before commenting again.
